When you’re working on your computer and you get stuck with something, what do you do?

Well, if you’re working in an office, you’ll probably go to the IT department and if you’re working at home you’ll probably ask a family member or friend who knows more than you do about computers. That’s the way we learn, right? Find somebody who knows more than you do and ask them.

Some of you may have answered to the above question that they’d call technical support, but if you’ve ever been sitting on hold for hours, you’ll know that traditional technical support is definitely a last ditch option. So, if you don’t have an IT person handy and none of your friends or family knows how to fix the problem, is there somewhere else you can turn besides technical support? You bet there is.

What you’re looking for is called a knowledge-base. A knowledge-base is similar to a tradition web forum and is comprised of lots and lots of people who all have varying levels of knowledge about a certain topic.

Once you enter a knowledge base, you can search through the types of problems that people have asked before you and you’ll probably find an answer right there. A lot of people use the same software you use, so one of them was bound to have come up with the same issue before. Once you search, apply the advice given concerning the problem, and there you go.

And, if you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, just post a message to the knowledge-base with your question and somebody will probably answer you quickly. All fixed and all it took was a little time on the internet.
